The Norwegian Maritime Authority

The Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) is the administrative and supervisory authority in matters related to the safety of life, health, material values and the environment on vessels flying the Norwegian flag and foreign ships in Norwegian waters. The NMA is also responsible for ensuring the legal protection of Norwegian-registered ships and registered rights in those ships. The NMA is subordinate to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries and the Ministry of Climate and Environment. Our activities are governed by national and international legislation, agreements and political decisions.

Thomas and Rasmus have been deeply engaged in several local measures regarding cleaning the ocean and coastal areas. Thomas, a member of Blue Helmet of the Sea – CMAS, has taken part as a diver in cleaning the ocean floor in Haugesund, Smedasundet. Both of us have children and feel a strong responsibility to clean the ocean for future generations. Since Norway has one of the largest fishing and merchant fleets in the world, we feel it important that we as representatives for the Norwegian Maritime Authority participate in this issue. We hope that through this project, we also come closer to a solution regarding future marine pollution.
